A Chinese man was killed after he was shot by unidentified assailants in Pasay City in the Philippines on the evening of May 2. The man was shot after the vehicle he was traveling in with three other companions was attacked. Taiwan reports say the man was traveling with one other Chinese man and two Taiwanese men.

GMA News online reported that police identified the deceased man as Chen Li-Jun, while his injured companion was identified as Shi Ji-Zhao. The Taiwanese men were identified as Yu-Ming Hwang and Hsin-Hua Kuo.

Initial investigations revealed that the men were on their way to the Midas Hotel, and were traveling in a Nissan Sentra with the license plate number ZMP 923. Taiwanese reports said the men encountered a roadblock, so they turned down an alley, which two of the party told police was either E. Rodriguez Street or on Layug Street.

There, an unknown number of assailants pounded on the window of the vehicle, prompting the driver to accelerate. This was when one or multiple assailants opened fire. A bullet entered the vehicle through the rear and managed to hit Chen in the back of the head, exit through his neck and strike Shi's right knee.

Taiwanese reports say Chen was not immediately killed, but died after failing to get adequate medical attention in a timely fashion. One report said police demanded the group pay fuel before transporting the injured men to hospital. The first hospital did not have adequate surgical facilities, forcing Chen to be transferred to another hospital. However, he succombed to his injuries some time in the process.

Police are not discounting robbery as a possible motive for the attack.
