Pageantry and protests to mark the 102nd anniversary of the birth of kim il sung, the founder of north korea.

In north korea, it's a national holiday also known as the day of the sun.

State-run television showed thousands of north korean officials and top military brass attending a massive rally on kim's birthday eve, pledging their loyal;ty to the kim dynasty.

Kim's grandson and current leader of north korea kim jong un paid his respects both his grandfater and his father in a formal ceremony

But in south korea, the day was marked by protests.

Anti-north korea demonstrators chanted and defaced images of the kim's, and expressed their anger over the north's habit of flexing its military might.

South korean leader park chan-sung saying:
