Five former baggage handlers at JFK airport have been accused of stealing checks, money orders and credit cards which had all been sent from a military base located overseas.

Plane travelers have to blindly place their trust in airport staffers and unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out. Five former baggage handlers at at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport have been accused of stealing checks, money orders and credit cards which had all been sent in US mail bags, including from a military base overseas.

The employees were responsible for processing mail at the airport. An active military member sent some of the money orders to Missouri. The money never got to the recipient.

According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, the five defendants used the stolen credit cards to purchase gadgets from Best Buy kiosks in the airport. The suspects have also been accused of numerous other thefts.

A $500 money order destined for South Korea was stolen, as was a child support payment amounting to $500. The thefts totaled over 25 thousand dollars.

An investigation was launched into the case after several reports surfaced regarding missing checks and credit cards that were sent via U.S. mail. The suspects, aged between 20 and 31, are now facing charges of ‘criminal possession of stolen property’ and ‘grand larceny’.
