Catholic leaders in Chicago are releasing 6000 pages of information detailing sexual abuse by priests.

They have been handed over to victims' lawyers after years of campaigns against the church.

Most of the abuse occurred before 1988 and the church insists there was none after 1996. It has also apologised and insists measures are in place to stop anything like it from ever happening again.

Many of the accused priests are dead, but the documents list 30 priests who have faced what is described as "credible allegations of abuse". Those still alive are no longer practicing priests.

Many other diocese in the US have paid out millions of dollars to settle victim’s claims.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher has the details.
