A family travelling to Trentino Alto Adige region for the weekend left their 9-year-old son behind at a highway stop.
The child was sleeping in the back of the family's camper van when the parents decided to stop for a coffee. They entered the highway service area and left the child in the car to avoid waking him up.
A few minutes later the son woke up and got out of the van in search of his parents. The couple got back in the van and drove away, not realizing the child was missing. The child, still wandering in the service area parking lot saw the van and chased it, following it to the entrance of the highway.
The child was then assisted by highway personnel who managed to contact the parents, still unaware that their child was missing. They picked him up around an hour later.
