Ever since the movie Jaws came out, it’s the nightmare for all sea goers – encountering a vicious shark. Recently a surfer in Hawaii lived through that horrible dream.

25-year-old Jeff Horton had been enjoying his hobby when he noticed a fin pop up. About 20 minutes after that initial sighting, Horton was sitting on his surfboard with his legs dangling in the ocean, when he saw a shark moving through the water, headed straight towards him.

Horton immediately pulled his legs up as the shark took a bite out of his surfboard. He decided to fight back against the creature…literally. Horton, who is a former boxer, threw punch after punch at the shark.

Horton stated “I finally got one nice punch into the eye. I put some really good hits on it, for sure.” It was that blow, the one to the eye, that forced the shark to spit out the board and retreat back in the water, finally leaving Horton alone.

He estimates that he got about eight hard punches in before the shark took off. Horton escaped with very minor injuries, just a few scratches
