Insane shootout as woman murders family with shotgun before being killed by father: A decades-long family feud ended in a bloody gunfight and four deaths at a rural property in Ashville, Pennsylvania on Friday when a man shot dead his estranged daughter and her husband moments after the couple murdered his wife and son.
Armed with a sawn-off shotgun and handguns, Josephine Ruckinger and her husband walked up the long driveway toward the mobile home on at 643 Bottom Road.
John Frew, 67, his 64-year-old wife Roberta, and their 47-year-old son John Jr had just arrived home from dinner and were watching TV when they heard a knock on the door. Roberta Frey opened the door and yelled "Oh my God, they have guns!" seconds before Ruckinger shot her at point-blank range.
Reports say John Jr then may have attempted to arm himself before Ruckinger's husband opened fire, striking him three times in the body, killing him.
The elder Mr Frew then retrieved a revolver from another room and shot his daughter in the head before she was able to fire on him.
Initial investigations suggest the murder was premeditated and that Frew fired in self-defence. He also didn't recognize his daughter until after he had shot her, the Associated Press reported.
Virginia Cruse, a relative, said Josephine Ruckinger hated her family. At around age 20 she and a boyfriend ransacked their house and stole a gun. Then "more or less, they [the family] disowned her," said Cruse.
