All 3,000 residents of the German town of Harthausen were forced to leave their homes on Saturday after a gas explosion at an industrial site.

At least 16 firefighters were injured in the incident when two gas tanks exploded. Seven are believed to be in a serious condition.

Around 450 emergency response units attended the scene.
