Deadly knife attack after San Francisco MLB game: A baseball rivalry turned tragic when 24-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers fan Jonathan Denver was stabbed to death in front of his family following a Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants game just a few blocks from San Francisco's AT&T Park late on Wednesday evening.

Denver, his brother, father and father's girlfriend left the game during the eighth inning and walked north along 3rd Street for a drink at a nearby bar.

Trouble began when Denver — dressed in Dodgers jersey — and his companions encountered a group of young men around 11:30pm after leaving the bar.

One of the men wore a Giants cap, and the groups began trading insults. The exact details of what followed remain unclear but the fight reportedly stopped and the two groups parted ways only to cross paths a short while later. Fighting erupted and Denver was stabbed. He fell to the ground and the young men fled.

Denver, a plumber's apprentice in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, died a short while later at San Francisco General Hospital. Another man was also treated there after being punched numerous times in the melee.

Michael Montgomery, 21, was arrested on suspicion of murder, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Two other men are wanted by police.
