A 28-year-old woman was assaulted in broad daylight as she was walking along a main road in Bangsar, Malaysia last Friday. A unidentified man grabbed her from behind as she was approaching the intersection of Jalan Maarof traffic lights near Saidina Abu bakar As-Siddiq Mosque at around 6:00 p.m., and held a knife to her throat, according to The Star Online. The woman's case was brought to light recently after Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign posted pictures of her injuries on their Facebook page.

"I could feel the knife although I couldn't see it under my collar. I fought him off with both hands while screaming at him," she said. She added that her attacker looked foreign and had not attempted to take her cell phone or handbag. She witnessed him flee the scene with an accomplice in a grey Toyota Vios, making an illegal U-turn before speeding off toward the city centre.

The woman also said that many cars were stopped at the red light, but no one tried to help her.

She was eventually assisted by a couple on a black Toyota Alphard who witnessed the incident. According to the couple, they made a U-turn after seeing the attack from the other side of the road. They took her to Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment, and called the police to take her statement there.

The woman had asked authorities to examine CCTV footage of the assault. However, she said she was informed that the CCTV was under the jurisdiction of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and that it wasn't working at the time of the attack.

The woman's case is being followed up by a CID officer.

The Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign was founded by a man who only wishes to be identified as Mark. There are currently more than 40,000 followers on the page.
