Rising Karachi was addition of a new chapter in the history of Karachi. This program would provide lot of facilities and information to people using mobile phones and especially citizens of Karachi. This was said by Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan while addressing as chief guest in the launching ceremony of Rising Karachi Program- A system aimed at providing useful information and updates to citizens through mobile phone.
The ceremony was attended by provincial minister for health Dr. Sagheer Ahmed, minister for information Sharjeel Memon, Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed, Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman, Project Director Muhammad Nasir, President Dockland Group Asrar Ahmed Khan, provincial secretaries, I.G Sindh and a good number of high officials.
Governor Sindh said Karachi was the economic hub of Pakistan and it holds special importance. The people here contributed to the progress of country. Like other metropolitan cities of the world, Karachi is developed as a modern city and various measures taken to deal with the different challenges.
He said the Rising Karachi program devised by the I.T Department would prove quite helpful for citizens as they would get all the required information through SMS on their cell phone. The information about health, education, traffic, development projects, immunization programs, spray campaign, various events held in the city, casualties and thanks messages would be made available on mobile phones.
It would also enable citizens to lodge their complaints regarding various departments of KMC through mobile phone. Governor Sindh said it would take some time to enhance the scope of Rising Karachi, still this program would provide lot of facilities to people using cell phones. He said work on delayed Lyari Expressway was resumed and we are grateful to the President of Pakistan for releasing funds for its construction. He said the K-IV Water Supply Project was also begun which was one of the biggest water supply project in the world. Construction of the highway between Karachi and Hyderabad would also start soon.
KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed while speaking on this occasion said that information regarding Karachi city would be available through mobile phones and for this purpose one would need to register ones. He said anyone could register itself on the website www.risingkarachi.gov.pk without any charge after which all the information about present uplift works in the city would be available to them. The updates on the complaints registered on KMC Complaints Management System 1339 would also be available through this program. He said KMC was the first metropolitan organization in the country which has provided this cellular service to citizens of Karachi and now everyone living in Karachi could get in touch with the KMC.
