Many say that Miami, Florida is destined to end up underwater and by some estimates it’ll probably happen in a hundred years or less.
According to Rolling Stones, it’s also believed that long before it’s engulfed, the rising water will cause significant problems to wiring, drinking water, and roads, making daily life increasingly disastrous.
The predictions are based on the realities of the rapidly rising sea level in the area. Some scientists estimate a 6-foot increase by the end of the century, while others offer numbers up to 16.
When the rising sea levels are combined with the flatness of the land, the force with which the storms come in, and its already low elevation the overall outlook doesn’t offer much opportunity for hope.
In 2010 University of Washington science professor and author Peter Ward dabbled in fiction when he included a chapter called “Miami Beached” in his book The Flooded Earth.
He predicted massive water destruction followed by lawlessness and pestilence. Ward said of the chapter that although he made up the human nature parts, he’s convinced the science part will eventually happen..
