A woman allegedly slaps a deputy to help her quit smoking.
Smoking is a tough habit to break.
A 31-year-old woman in Sacramento came up with an unconventional approach to quitting smoking.
Sheriff's Deputy Matt Campoy was leaving his shift, walking outside of a jail when he noticed a lady, Etta Mae Lopez approach from his side. (1,5,1) The deputy tried to move away from her, but Lopez was there at every step.
She then reportedly cut him off by stepping in front of him and slapped him across the face. Campoy immediately cuffed Lopez and took her to jail, but he managed to get an explanation for her bizarre behavior.
Campoy states “She waited all day for a deputy to come out because she knew if she assaulted a deputy she would go to jail and be inside long enough to quit her smoking habit.”
In 2011, another desperate person opted for a prison sentence. 59-year-old, Richard James Verone was riddled with health problems, but he did not have medical care.
Verone decided to rob a North Carolina bank for $1, so he could be sent to jail and get the medical attention he desperately needed.
