Colombia hosts evolution-themed fashion week

STORY: Fashionistas took a whirlwind tour through time on Tuesday (May 7) as designers from all over the world displayed their Autumn-Winter 2013/14 creations at Colombia's Fashion Week, under the theme "Evolution".

Designers from the Netherlands, the United States, Colombia and Estonia took part in joint a runway show called "Plataforma B 'Evolucion'" sponsored by the Gilberto Alzate Avendano Foundation to showcase garments made with revolutionary materials and interactive designs.

Dutch designer Maartje Dijkstra displayed a performance project called "Obstruction". According to Dijkstra, the dress is intended for a dancer and questions the advancements of technology by playing with illumination. When the dress is in the light, the dancer has free range of motion. But in shadow, sticks emerge from the folds, impeding the dancer's movement.
