4,400 children are injured by amusement park rides annually.

An estimated 44 hundred children are injured on roller coasters and carnival rides every year, according to a recent study that includes 20 years worth of data.

During the peak season for amusement parks between May and September, 20 children a day suffer injuries caused by rides.

Data analysis from the National Electronic Surveillance System shows that the majority of the injuries are minor, but around 67 children are hospitalized every year.

The study looked at information collected on fixed site amusement parks and mobile carnivals.

Doctor Gary A. Smith, who conducted the research for Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio said: “I try to do these reports in a way that we can inform the public, information the industry and inform policy makers. We want to inform the people who have the ability to keep kids safe.”

Another estimate from the National Safety Council survey says that 1299 people were injured by amusement park rides in 2010.

During 2010, over 290 million people went to an amusement park in the United States, and they rode 1 point 7 billion rides.
