An elderly couple goes back to college.
An elderly couple is proving that it’s never too late to get a degree. Harold and Frances Gates are attending Lone Star College in Kingwood, Texas to complete their college educations.
The pair has been married for more than 50 years. After they retired, they wanted to learn how to set up a website and decided it was time to go back to school.
Harold and Frances each have a 4.0 grade point average and showcase their honor society pins. Next year, they will receive their associate’s degree. When asked what the couple's plans are after college, Harold states “Well, we'll wake up one morning and we'll find the next challenge.”
Last year, an 88-year-old, World War II veteran, Howard Hurwitz graduated from the Atlantic Technical Center in Coconut Creek with a degree in medical coding and billing. Hurwitz, a native of the Bronx, was self-employed for years prior to deciding to enroll in college.
He began researching a new career path for himself after making the decision to stop operating a janitorial supply company.
