Minus Blue aka Leigh Devlins' music career began with the explosion of house music and dance culture in the late eighties and early nineties. In 2009, Leigh put together an album under the name of 'Minus Blue'. The sound is best described as a collection of Leighs' influences. Heavily house influenced, but definitely not house at the same time, Leigh made the heart of every track a song. His album - 'Clear Blue Eyes' went on to feature highly in many downtempo charts, and made a big splash on YouTube, with hundreds thousand plays to date. Tracks from the album went on to feature in over 200 downtempo compilations from around the world, and are still finding new fans.
After a break of 3 years, Leigh has returned with a new Minus Blue album, along with a slightly modified sound, and a new set of talented co-writers and singers. Unlike the first album, the second, 'Living Life in Phases' was produced from the ground up to be a live project.
Don't Give Your Love Away is the first track to be released from the album. With great lyrics from Justin Lewis, who was signed to the Beastie Boys label, Grand Royal, and high quality spacious and lush influenced 80's / 90's sound this track is an excellent first release from a top quality album.
For remixes for the single, we have drafted in the talents of The Egg and Klangstein.
The Egg, should need no introduction. Well known on the festival circuit, they also fit comfortably into the club sccene where they enjoyed a worldwide hit with the massive Tocadisco electro-house remix of their track 'Walking Away', which then went sky rocketing when David Guetta did a bootleg of the track creating 'Love Dont Let Me Go (Walkiing Away)' which then went to No.3 in the UK charts and No.1 in France, Spain and Australia. Their new album 'Something To Do' has just been released on their label, Squarepeg Records,to critical acclaim. For their remix they have done two edits where the basics are the same, but just have slight differences in the bass, and duration. Using current electronic sounds, their mixes have a certain bounce to them, whilst still using a 4 to the floor beat. With excellent synth sound construction and flow their mixes have a definite electronic feel to it. They have used a stripped amount of vocal but retain a slight 80's flavour but they add their trademark modern production techniques.
For the other remix we have top German downtempo producer Klangstein. Having released hundreds of productions, remixes and DJ mixes on international compilations, he has worked with internationally renowned producers & artists such as Nosie Katzmann (Culture Beat, DJ Bobo, Jam & Spoon) and Chris Zippel (Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams). He also composes and produces soundtracks for TV commercials and corporate videos and regularly spins on various events as a DJ. For his remix he takes it more organic than the original mix, but retains the full vocal. Replacing the 80's based synths, he uses smooth drawn out pianos chords at the start, progressing to lush smooth pads before introducing some delicately played keys to keep the songs progression smooth and chilled.
All in all this is an excellent package of purist electronica and a great introduction to release the album.
