US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle joined a congregation of around 2,000 people in Boston's Cathedral of the Holy Cross for an interfaith service for the victims of the Boston marathon bombing.

Speaking during the service, Obama said: "We may be momentarily knocked off our feet. But we'll pick ourselves up. We'll keep going. We will finish the race.
