Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's dreams of returning to political office are dealt a fresh blow.

On Thursday, he was forced to flee this Islamabad courthouse after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest, cancelling Musharraf's bail.

He is now holed up in a farm in an exclusive residential estate on the outskirts of Islamabad where some supporters have gathered to rally behind the embattled figure.

Musharaff's lawyer said they plan to appeal the warrant at the Supreme Court later on Thursday.

As of now it is unclear when or if police will enforce the warrant.

The controversial leader returned to his home country last month after four years of self-imposed exile in London and Dubai, hoping to run in upcoming elections.

Instead, he was barred from the polls and has become embroiled in several court cases, with charges ranging from corruption to failing to protect late prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007.
