ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: A truck driver in Bangladesh is killed after demonstrations of the country's opposition, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) turned violent on Tuesday (April 09).

The BNP activists were protesting against the arrest of their leaders for their role in cases of alleged war crimes.

Bangladesh has been rocked by protests and counter-protests since January, when a tribunal set up by the government to investigate abuses during the war of independence against Pakistan handed down its first conviction, sentencing a leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami party Abul Kalam Azad in absentia to death.

Jamaat-e-Islami opposed Bangladeshi independence from Pakistan in the 1971 war.
