Students are offering sacrificed animals in exchange for passing exams.
High school students in India are turning to superstition to pass their tests.
They are venturing to Ranapur in the belief that the idol of a tribal god will make wishes come true.
At the location, photocopies of testing cards are tied around trees and the student will usually ask to pass or excel. If that dream becomes a reality, the wish maker promises to bring a goat or hen to the god.
In the area, approximately 500 animals are slaughtered everyday, the sacrifice carried out by priests. It isn’t only teenagers asking the god for favors; teachers, politicians and government workers are known to plead in Ranapur, asking for varying wishes to be granted.
The ritual of sacrificing animals is not without dangers. Last year, an Algerian man suffered a brutal death following the preparation of a sacrificial ram.
The male purchased the ram for a festival and following the prayers, he went home and got a knife to get ready for the ram's slaughter. But things went tragically wrong very quickly when the ram butted the male, causing him to fall to the ground and die.
