In 2011, Margaret Thatcher returned to the public eye, but this time on movie screens. The former British Prime Minister was the subject of the Award winning film "The Iron Lady" where she was portrayed by Hollywood superstar Meryl Streep.
Streep, who took home the best actress Academy Award for her performance, released a statement on news of Thatcher's death. Streep highlighted the accomplishments of Thatcher and her role as a pioneer among women.
Streep concluded: "I was honored to try to imagine her late life journey, after power; but I have only a glancing understanding of what her many struggles were, and how she managed to sail through to the other side. I wish to convey my respectful condolences to her family and many friends."
Thatcher passed away on April 8 following a stroke. She was 87.
