Rescuers worked on Saturday (March 30) to reach 83 workers trapped by a landslide in a mining area of Tibet, China's state-run news agency Xinhua and Chinese state broadcaster, CCTV reported.

The landslide, over an area of about 3 km, struck in Maizhokunggar County on Friday (March 29), Xinhua said.

It buried a camp of workers employed by the Tibet Huatailong Mining Development Co Ltd, Xinhua added.

Footage broadcast by official Chinese television CCTV showed rescuers gathering supplies and using life detection equipment in their search efforts.

Despite the large-scale rescue efforts, CCTV said that the low temperatures in the area have further exacerbated the operation.

There was no immediate word on any deaths or injuries.
