Celebrities' private information is leaked online.

Protecting private information is a daunting task when so much of our information is available online.

Recently the financial information of stars like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Mel Gibson, Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian was leaked on a website.

In some cases, social security numbers along with addresses were disclosed. Other prominent figures were also targeted including Vice President Joe Biden , First Lady Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.

For some of these individuals targeted, very specific information was revealed including credit reports, mortgage information and credit card details.

For others, sensitive information like social security information and other private data was leaked.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into how the information of FBI Director Robert Mueller landed on the website.

In 2011, a 35-year-old Florida man was arrested for hacking into celebrity email accounts. Christina Aguilera, Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson were just a few of the victims.

A publicist in Beverly Hills stated “It is a tough balance between publicity and private information for a celebrity in the Internet age."
