An 8-year-old boy marries a 61-year-old woman.
Weddings usually consist of two adults.
But in one bizarre case, an 8-year-old boy wed a 61-year-old bride.
The ceremony took place in South Africa and approximately 100 guests watched as the child and mom of five kissed and exchanged vows. The new couple does not live together and they have not signed a marriage certificate.
Apparently the wedding was arranged by the child’s family in honor of deceased ancestors. They claim the ceremony was only a ritual with no legality behind it.
The boy says he was happy to wed the much older woman but he will marry someone closer to his own age when he’s an adult. The child’s mother disclosed it was the boy’s grandfather’s last wish to see him get married before he passed away.
Earlier this year, a kindergarten in China put on a marriage ceremony. Approximately 100 children, between the ages of three and six wore bridal dresses and suits in a miniature wedding.
They swapped rings and said their vows. The goal was to teach the kids family values and relationships. The parents had to give permission for their child to take part and they were assured the "marriage" was not binding.
