(SOUNDBITE)(English) CHAIRMAN OF THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL AND BOUNDARIES COMMISSION, ISSACK HASSAN, SAYING:

"I therefore declare Uhuru Kenyatta the duly elected president."

Kenya's election commission narrowly declares Uhuru Kenyatta the winner of a tight presidential race on Saturday.

Having secured 50.07 percent of the votes in the tribally divisive election, Kenyatta, the current deputy prime minister, achieved just more than the 50 percent needed to dodge a second voting round.

He beat Prime Minister Raila Odinga to secure the presidency.

Odinga's campaign team has called the ballot count flawed but said they would seek justice in court and not the streets.

Kenyatta, the son of Kenya's founding president, has been indicted for crimes against humanity in relation to deadly violence that flared after the disputed 2007 presidential vote.
