Hospitals in northern Jordan are struggling to keep up with the influx of wounded Syrians entering the country to escape the conflict.

Princess Basma training hospital in the town of Irbid is one.

It has 200 beds and an emergency unit, but is working at full capacity.

The hospital's director said that on Monday alone, they received 33 new cases-- mostly injuries from shrapnel and live ammunition.

More Syrians arrive daily, he said.

Some of the wounded belong to the rebel Free Syrian Army.

One fighter was wounded two days ago in a battle with government forces.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FAHD LABANY, SYRIAN PATIENT, SAYING:

"We were under attack, by rocket launchers, artillery and mortars. A rocket landed next to me, and it broke my arm, and caused me to lose my leg."

Many others are civilians.
