Scientists have gained new insights concerning owls.

Owls are fascinating birds.

There are about 229 different known species of owls in the world, and two new species of owls were just discovered last year in the Philippines.

They have habitats in nearly every climate on Earth from the desert to the tropics to the Arctic.

Scientists have found that barn owls have a kind of distinct language that they use to communicate using a series of hoots, trills and other calls.

Young barn owls have also been known to share food with smaller siblings, something that is thought be rare behavior in the animal kingdom.

The largest owl in the world is the Blakiston’s fish owl that lives in Eurasia, measuring almost three feet tall with a six foot wing span.

Most owls are nocturnal and hunt at night, but snowy owls are diurnal, which means that they can hunt at night or during the day.

Another new species of owl has just been found in Indonesia.

The owls on Lombok Island resemble the owls that live on a neighboring island, but their vocal patterns are much different, which usually indicates to ornithologists that the bird is a completely different species.
