There are many downsides to being beautiful.

People pay more attention to attractive people than those who do not meet society’s standards of beauty.
Men who are better looking reportedly earn 9 percent more at work than men who are perceived as unattractive.

There are also downsides.

A study showed that compared to “plain” looking women, attractive women were 41 percent less likely to get hired if they put a picture of themselves on their resume.

Attractive women are also more likely to be thought guilty if they are accused of homicide.

Even in other species besides humans, attractive females are more likely to be sexually harassed.

Female guppies can divert unwanted male attention by surrounding themselves with more attractive females.

And the opposite happens too.

A study from Britain’s Royal Society shows that when male guppies want to be more attractive to females, they swim next to uglier guppies.

The author of one of the studies on guppies behavior Clelia Gasparini, from the University of Padua in Italy, said: "As a researcher I cannot compare human mating systems with the guppy's but I saw this tactic working pretty well with humans."
