New information regarding Sony’s upcoming console fresh from Electronic Arts’ investor’s meeting, news from Sony on the digital vision of the PlayStation 4, and AMD’s announcement regarding the individual sale of an APU similar to that of the PS4, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. Electronic Arts has recently hosted an investor’s meeting focused primarily on their involvement with Sony’s PlayStation 4 despite being absent from the February 20th PlayStation meeting. During the meeting EA revealed a few interesting details such as the console being eight to ten times more powerful than the PlayStation 3, being able to accomplish what would have previously taken months in now days thanks to the console being designed more like a PC, and the development of EA titles such as the next Battlefield being in development on the PlayStation 4 for the past year. EA also stated that the increase in game development costs in only expected to go up five to ten percent, but cost will likely increase in the future as the games become bigger. With a recent statement from Sony’s Jack Tretton stating that games on the PlayStation 4 will run $0.99 to $60, it would be nice to not see costs of the software go up, but we’ll have to wait until this holiday season to find out for sure.

Continuing on PlayStation 4 news, Sony has confirmed that “PS4 will be similar to PlayStation Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc,” Considering this statement, don’t be surprised to see massive hard drives implemented within the next PlayStation 4 consoles to accommodate the large size titles planned to release on Sony’s upcoming platform. Continuing on the digital distribution platform, Sony stated “The Witness will be a digital release and because of the flexibility of the digital distribution scheme, we can have more small games that might be free or available for a couple of dollars, or different services like free-to-play or subscription models.” While no further details were provided, with E3 2013 just a few months away, more details are sure to surface in the near future.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, AMD, the company behind the power of the PlayStation 4, has revealed “Everything that Sony has shared in that single chip is AMD, but we have not built an APU quite like that for anyone else in the market. It is by far the most powerful APU we have built to date, it leverages [intellectual property] that you will find in our A-series APUs later this year, our new generation of APUs but none that will quite be to that level of sheer number of cores, sheer number of teraflops." Hearing such statement from AMD themselves is both promising and concerning in that it exemplifies the extensive power of the PlayStation 4 chip, but may hint towards high production costs. Sony has yet to state anything pricing related, but if we don’t find out come E3 2013, we are sure to find out come the 2013 Tokyo Game Show.
