Protests continue across Bangladesh as tens of thousands of people call for the death penalty for convicted war criminals. One of them is Abdul Quader Mollah, who was handed a life sentence for his role in the 1971 War for Independence against Pakistan. Activists say the punishment is was too lenient. The trials are seen as part of a long and bitter rivalry between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the main opposition leader, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is allied with the Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat-e-Islami claims the conviction of Mollah was politically motivated. An Al Jazeera special correspondent travelled to Dhaka and filed this report.
