A library book, borrowed in 1958 is finally returned.

Most people have been guilty of keeping a library book a little too long.

Employees at the Fort Washington branch of the New York Public Library got quite a surprise when a very old copy of the book titled "Fire of Francis Xavier" was returned.

The book was dramatically overdue as the last check out date was from April 1958. Library workers have no idea who returned it as the book was sent in the mail.

Inside of the package was also a $100 check. According to ABC news, the overdue charge would amount to more than $5,000 since hardcover books are charged a late fee of 25 cents per day. However library personnel claim that the maximum fee cannot exceed the cost of the book, which means the sent $100 covered the late fee.

In late 2011, a long overdue library book was discovered in a Lake District home in Britain. The house had previously belonged to a wealthy family, but years after the National Trust acquired the structure, an 860-page hardcover dubbed ‘Good Words’ was found among the contents.

Get this, the book was 123 years past due.
