Bold colours, immaculate tailoring and simple shapes dominated the red carpet at the EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA Awards) on Sunday (February 10).

Adding to the difficulty of looking glamorous on the carpet was the particularly inclement London weather. Sleet and incessant heavy rain conspired against the stars, but some made the most of it, most notably British actress Dame Helen Mirren who wore a Nicholas Oakwell dress and surprised everyone by revealing a bubblegum pink crop of hair.

"I think the biggest shock of the night was that Helen Mirren turned up and had dyed all her hair pink which I thought was a fantastic testament to her slightly naughty character," fashion writer Alex Butt, who has written for Grazia magazine and Harper's Bazaar, told Reuters.

Leading actress nominees Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, and Jennifer Lawrence were among the stars who were the talk of the fashion editors.

With a nod to the golden era of Hollywood glamour, Chastain and Cotillard wore electric blue Roland Mouret and canary yellow Dior couture, respectively.

Jennifer Lawrence wowed the crowds in a cream Dior gown, BAFTA Rising Star nominee Andrea Risborough wore bright yellow Vivienne Westwood, and Anne Hathaway wore an embellished black gown by Burberry. Meanwhile fellow rising star nominee Juno Temple wore off-white Stella McCartney.
