ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: Residents in former Myanmar capital Yangon thronged Chinatown to observe the Lunar New Year on Sunday.

Families prayed together and asked for good fortune in the coming Year of the Snake.

Some streets were blocked off so vendors could sell fireworks, balloons, toy snakes and other items, but people came mostly to pray.

Many lit candles and incense at the Chinese temple, the largest in Yangon.

Others took pictures with people in dancing tiger costumes.

Those born in 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2013 are all born under the Year of the Snake.
