An FIR has been registered against Union Minister Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for leading an irate mob to vandalise the Murshidabad District Magistrate's (DM) office. Congress workers on Thursday (Feb 7) went on a rampage, vandalising the DM's office when the officer declined to accept their memorandum on the alleged custodial death of a party worker. The workers smashed flower pots, pulled down a sun shed and hurled brickbats breaking the windscreen of a vehicle in protest to the death of the worker after he was allegedly beaten up by police in the lock-up on January 7. However, Chowdhury remains defiant despite the FIR, saying that he was trying to calm the mob.
