There are plans for an amusement park in the town where Bin Laden was killed.
The town of Abbottabad in Pakistan is where Osama bin Laden was killed by US special forces. Now, authorities have announced plans to build a $30 million amusement park in the same area.
The provincial minister for tourism states “The amusement city will be built on 50 acres in the first phase but later will be extended to 500 acres. It will have a heritage park, wildlife zoo, food street, adventure and paragliding clubs, waterfalls and jogging tracks.”
Construction is slated to begin this February and it is expected that the project will take a total of eight years to finally complete. The town’s image was severely shattered following the death of bin Laden, but the hope is that the park will boost tourism in Abbottabad.
Last year, Bin Laden’s compound, where he lived with his children and wives was demolished as officials feared it could become a shrine. The contractor who was hired for the demolition encountered many people who wanted to buy bricks from the compound as souvenirs.
Pakistani residents bought single bricks for less than a nickel a piece.
