Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai is slated to get a titanium skull.
A 15 year old Pakistani girl known for her political activism and a recent attack on her life is set to have her last surgeries.
Malala Yousafzai gained global recognition for a women’s right to an education in the midst of a country where Taliban militants oppose such rights.
In October of 2012, she was the intended victim of a shooting while riding the bus home from school.
She was shot several times including taking a bullet to the head and neck.
She survived and has already undergone several surgeries including being treated in Pakistan before being moved to the United Kingdom for further operations.
In what is hoped to be her final surgeries, she will have a titanium plate placed over a hole in her skull, and a cochlear implant to repair some of the hearing in her left ear.
The surgeries will be performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Dr Dave Rosser, medical director at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “She's not naive at all about what happened to her and the situation in terms of her high profile. She's incredibly determined to continue to speak for her cause."
