Syrian state television says Israeli warplanes attacked a military research centre in Damascus province.

This statement from Syria's military command was aired on Wednesday (January 30), claiming the attack took place at dawn in Jamraya.

It said two people were killed and five others were wounded.

The statement denied conflicting reports that the Israeli planes attacked a Syrian convoy.

Diplomatic sources believe the warplanes targeted vehicles supposedly carrying weapons from Syria into Lebanon.

Syrian rebels have disputed the state's claims of an air assault on the research centre, saying their own forces attacked the site.
