US ambassador to Syria Robert Ford has told Al Jazeera that there is a huge need for humanitarian assistance.

Ford, who has not been in Syria for a long time, said "key thing is can these resources be mobilised quickly"?

"We the Americans are mobilising as quickly as we can now both in terms of expanding our assistance to implementers inside Syria and working with UN and Red Cross, and to also get aid into Syria where UN has not been able to reach."
