At least five died when a parked car exploded in the Shi'ite neighbourhood in northwestern Baghdad.

Thirteen were reported wounded in the marketplace bombing.

One resident blamed ultra-conservative Islamist militants.

(SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) ABU AHMED, LOCAL RESIDENT, SAYING:

"Some of the people are accusing the Sunnis, but the Sunnis are our brothers. We blame this act on the Salafis, the Wahabis, the Takfiris. They are to blame for this act, but they will not succeed in breaking our unity. You can see the damage and the burnt-out cars. What did those people do to be killed"

The Shula bombing was one of several attacks, including one at an army base, across the Iraqi capital, which has been plagued by sectarian violence.

The strikes on Tuesday claimed at least 17 lives.
