Alfred Gockel was born in 1952 near Münster, Germany.
His first work of art was published at the age of 8 years old by a German publisher.
In his childhood he worked as a miner at 700 meter depth. This is why he uses self-prepared tar in his acrylics.
He studied at the Polytechnic Art University in Münster.
Alfred Gockel became well known and recognized in Germany as painter and as successful international publisher of only his own artworks with a worldwide distribution.
Since 1983 Alfred sold and distributed until 2006 almost 100 million open editions to framers, art & design shops and galleries.
In 1990 he bought a silkscreen printer and started a collection of original limited, hand-signed silkscreen prints, mainly abstracts, which sold very successfully too.
In his travels he has met Salvador Dali and Miro and he’s a great admirer of Chagall, Kandinsky and Picasso.
In the United States he was impressed by the art of Jasper Johns and Jackson Pollock.
