At the age of 115, the world's oldest person has died.

Dina Manfredini passed away in a retirement centre in Iowa on Monday (December 17).

She claimed the title for just 13 days, after being crowned by Guinness World Records two weeks ago.

The title has now passed to a Japanese man, who is just 15 days younger than Manfredini.

Jiroemon Kimura celebrated his 115th birthday with family earlier this year.

He attributes long life to sunlight and an active mind.

SOUNDBITE: 115-YEAR-OLD KYOTO RESIDENT JIROEMON KIMURA SAYING (Japanese):

"I don't know exactly... maybe it's all thanks to the sun above me. I am always looking up towards the sky, that is how I am."

Manfredini and Kimura would've both been six-years-old when the Wright brothers flew the first plane.
