STORY: Authorities continue to investigate the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School and will be questioning two adults who were wounded in the shooting and survived, Connecticut State Police said on Monday.

The two survivors are considered key witnesses who may be able to help police reconstruct the steps taken by the 20-year-old gunman who opened fire, State Police Lieutenant J. Paul Vance said at a media briefing.

"Our investigators will speak to them when it is medically appropriate and certainly they will shed a great deal of light on the facts and circumstances of this tragic investigation that we are undertaking," he said.

In addition to the 26 people he killed at the school, the gunman killed his mother and himself.

Police said they expected the school, which is being treated as a crime scene, would be closed for "months."
