Security is heavy at this Afghan university a day after two students were killed in sectarian clashes.

Another 27 people were injured in the fighting between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims at Kabul University.

Many students were dismayed by the violence, which came during the annual Shi'ite festival of Ashura.

(SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) GUL RAHIM, AFGHAN SUNNI MUSLIM AND STUDENT OF KABUL UNIVERSITY, SAYING:

"University is an academic place. Religious events and other related events should not take part inside an academic place."

One student said the two dead were Shi'ites, who were pushed from a fourth-floor dormitory.

A Shi'ite parliamentarian called for an investigation into the fighting.

"I hope that Afghan security officials find those responsible for yesterday's clashes, and arrest and punish them."

In response to the violence the Afghan government has closed all universities for 10 days.
