Missile fire over Damascus suburbs.

Amateur video, which can't be independently verified, appears to capture missiles fired from a military airport as rebels renew attacks on the Syrian capital.

Amid failed ceasefires and feeble international efforts, the war to oust President Bashar al-Assad is entering its 20th month.

With no sign the destruction will ease, neighbouring Turkey plans to arm its border after Assad's forces launched an air offensive against rebels in the northeast last week.

Foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, said NATO has agreed to supply Patriot surface-to-air missiles to secure the 900-km border.

"The countries who supply NATO with Patriot systems are known - we have reached an agreement with those countries. The official application will be completed as soon as possible."

The head of NATO said Monday that the defensive measure was not to impose a no-fly zone over Syria.
