Romney is within striking distance of Barack Obama -- 48 percent to Romney's 46 percent in the latest Reuters Ipsos poll. Voters here in Ohio are critical to Romney winning enough electoral college votes to win the White House.
His running mate Paul Ryan was also up early, casting his ballot in his home state of Wisconsin while U.S. Vice President Joe Biden cast his his ballot in his home state of Delaware.
Both camps will also be close attention to Virginia, a historically conservative state --- which in recent years has gone increasingly Democratic.
Meanwhile in Queens, New York voters didn't let Hurricane Sandy keep them from casting their ballots --- in makeshift voting tents.
