Rescuing the pets left behind. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals tracks down pets stranded by superstorm Sandy. Many had to fend for themselves. Now relief is on the way.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED ASPCA WORKER, SPEAKING ON CELL PHONE, SAYING:

"Hi Sweetie, listen, I'm here with the ASPCA. They've got your cats. I'm going to put you on with Eddie. Hold on a second."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DICK GREEN, ASPCA WORKER, SPEAKING ON CELL PHONE, SAYING:

"Hi this is Dick Green with the ASPCA. So we have your two gorgeous cats and...Yeah, you're welcome. Can we make arrangements to give them to you? Are you close by?"

The ASPCA regularly conducts rescue operations following natural disasters. They are using trailers to help provide check ups for pets.

The teams expect to continue search-and-rescue missions for the remainder of the Hurricane Sandy recovery period.
