An artist turns destroyed, confiscated weapons into functional musical instruments.

One incredible creative artist from Mexico City, Pedro Reyes chooses to use confiscated weapons, turning them into something useful and beautiful.

The project, dubbed, ‘Imagine’ showcases the recreation of 6,700 weapons into 50 musical instruments. Reyes and 6 other musicians had two weeks to turn the confiscated, destroyed pieces into functional instruments and they successfully completed the project.

A video online shows the group performing ‘Bullet in the Head’ by Rage Against the Machine using the makeshift musical equipment.

Reyes stated “ It’s important to consider that many lives were taken with these weapons; as if a sort of exorcism was taking place the music expelled the demons they held, as well as being a requiem for lives lost.”

In 2008, Reyes embarked on another interesting project involving destroyed firearms. Called ‘Palas por Pistolas’ he asked for gun donations in West Mexico.

Citizens would receive a coupon for a free home appliance as an exchange. 1527 weapons were collected.

They were melted and turned into 1527 shovels. These shovels were sent to schools and art institutions for planting 1527 trees.

How do you like the idea of transforming weapons?
