Here at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, hundreds of passengers bound for the East Coast of the United States are stranded.

With Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the eastern seaboard, airports up and down the coast are shutting down operations in anticipation of the storm's impact.

All flights from Paris bound for Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. were cancelled starting Monday.

Jeff Baron is looking at one or more nights stuck in Paris.

"Obviously we will need to get a place to stay here in Paris. And there's a little indecision as they don't know how long it's going to be before airports open. But we hope to be on our way certainly as soon as we can."

Many U.S.-bound passengers were warned of the cancellations in advance by phone or email.

But not everyone got the message.

"I just arrived and someone told me my flight is cancelled."

Forecasters are saying Sandy could be the largest storm ever to hit the United States.
