Phone Booths Turned Into Goldfish Tanks - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

Good, old phone booths remind many of us about days from the past. It can be a little sad to see them destroyed or removed.

Well, one group is Osaka, Japan is turning those old booths into works of art. A collaboration of artists is transforming them into a home for dozens of goldfish.

The new phone booth aquariums serve as a public display of art, allowing visitors to watch the fish free of charge. Online photos show many people happily standing around or snapping photos as they view the swimming orange fish in the booth.

The artists have transformed several nostalgic phone enclosures in the area since 2011. After all cracks and openings have been sealed, the original telephone and seating area are left inside. While the booth is filling with water, the phone’s hand piece floats to the top, adding to the unique, artistic sight.

It is probably not a coincidence that goldfish were chosen for the pay phones, as they are common in Japan’s culture. The fish are said to being good luck, prosperity and happiness.
